Update for 3-26-2010 (Spring Break)

The Spring Break is Finally Here!!

Well, if you guys finish the assignments indicated below, you should be able to enjoy the break to all your heart's desire...

The Spring Break Assignments are as follows:

Regent Chemistry 2:
• 1 Take-Home Exam using Castle Learning Online (60 multiple choice questions). For detailed instruction, see here. Your assignment title is "Chem_2 Spring Break Take-Home Exam_2010". The exam is in Quiz Mode, so all clues and hints are turned off and you cannot go back to change your answers (but you may be able to complete the exam in several sessions).
• 1 Online labs using SmartScience Labs. For detailed instruction, see here. The lab to be completed is "Crystal Violet Bleaching".
• HW #18 (Due Wednesday): Holt - Read pp. 454 - 459, Do p. 459 problems 1, 2, 5, 6, 7
• Complete your Lab. Report #21 - done this week (Due 1st day when you come back).
• Reminder: Regular In-Class hands-on lab resume when you come back. The Tuesday 1st period session will be moved to Wednesday 1st period of the same week.

Living Environment 2:

Segregation, Allele, dominant, recessive, homozygous, heterozygous, genotype, phenotype, law of segregation, hybrid, law of independent assortment.
• Make sure you complete Castle Learning Online Unit 6 Review HW assignment and the Lab. Report #19.


To All Classes: I have sent out the progress reports for all. If you're missing any HW assignment or Lab. reports and would like to make those up, complete them and submit them by this Friday so I can grade and enter them during the break.

• Make sure you complete Lab. Report #19 (arranging the karyotype and answer all the questions - on the backside of the lab. sheet) and submit it by tomorrow.
• Make sure you complete Castle Learning Online Unit 6 Review HW assignment (posted on Saturday).

Sorry I wasn't able to make it to the school today; I've caught a flu during the Parents-Teacher Conference, so my voice is pretty much gone today...

• Lab. #21 starting tomorrow 1st period in Rm. 311.
• Unit 8 Exam on Thursday.

Living Environment 2:
• I have noted that the majority of you have not completed the review for the unit 6 exam at the Castle Learning Online site. The unit exam will be held tomorrow. If you do not complete the review, not only you will have a missing HW counted against you, you will also regret it when you get the exam.

The review for Monday's Unit 6 Exam has been posted using Castle Learning Online. Please follow the instructions below to log-in and complete this assignment (counted as homework):

1. Login at Castle Learning Online.
2. Enter login “ID”: Your OSIS number.
3. Enter your password: Your date of birth in the following format: YYYY-MM-DD
(E.g., February 01, 2006 would be 20060201)
4. Click “Sign-In” button.
5. Select Dr. Liu’s Class => Short Answer => Unit 6 Exam Review-Meiosis & Development.
* Note:
a) The assignment is in the "Open" mode, that means all the online hints and clues are turned on - so you can use those helps as well as your notes and textbook.
b) All the questions are randomly ordered, so don't bother record the answers and pass them to your buddy (it won't work).
c) If you have previously change your password on the Castle Learning Online, be sure to use the same password.

• Unit Exam on Monday - main topics include I. Developments, II. Asexual vs. Sexual Reproduction, III. Meiosis vs. Mitosis (emphasis on Meiosis). Study your notes!!

• HW #12: (Due Tomorrow) Holt - Read pp. 338 - 340; Do p. 344 problems 3, 4, 7, 16.
• Lab. #19 continues: Thurs. P9 and Fri. P1 in Rm. 311. Be on time especially for P1, which starts at 7:20 AM.

Living Environment 2:
• No HW today (Other than completing your online Lab. #16: Mitosis & Finish your Lab. #17 questions). Remember, plenty of others were able to login and finish the lab if they make sure that they 1) use latest Firefox browser; 2) Install latest JAVA; 3) Unblock the pop-up window. Not being able to get it work is not an excuse for not doing the lab. If you can't do it, use school's computer (Rm. 237, Period 8 & 9).
