• Reminder:  Completed HW #11 Midterm Review on CastleLearning is DUE TONIGHT.     
• Both Part 1 & Part 2 of Science Midterm/Mock Regent have been completed today.   If you missed it, it's your responsibility to see me about the make-up.

Chemistry HW #9 Explanation

To my chemistry classes:

On the second side of HW #9, this is what you should have done for each of 10 reactions listed:

1.  aluminum iodide + mercury(II) chloride -->  (unbalanced equation would be fine)

Tips: 
1. First form Double Replacement Reaction Products (check oxidation # for charge balance).
2. Check products for precipitate (PPT):  If it's soluble according to Table F, it will not form precipitate.
3. Then check products for covalent compound (COV): If both elements are non-metals, then it would most likely be a covalent compound.
4. Then check products for gas (GAS): Pretty much only gas you would have to worry about is H2S, HF, or CO2. (notice all these gases are covalent compounds).
5. If none of the products is PPT, COV, or GAS, then DR reaction won't occur (put a big X over yield sign)

* Formula of common acids could be found in Table K.
