Update for 11-27,28-2013

Here is the update for today:

EARTH SCIENCE 1:
• HW #13 (Due Monday): Go through online Annenberg Learner Interactive tutorial on Dynamic Earth (include Test Skills section).  Complete Unit 3 Review Sheet for submission by next Monday.  If you were absent on Wednesday, you may download the review sheet by click here.
• For those of you wish to correct your own mistakes on the Earth Sci. 1 Midterm, the key can be downloaded by click here.
• Unit 3 Exam may be held during later part of next week - specific date to be announced.

REGENT CHEMISTRY 1:
• Unit 4 Review Sheet has been distributed on Wednesday, and your assignment over the break is to work through it so you will be prepared for the Unit 4 Exam coming up.
• After you work through the review sheet, you can correct your own mistake by click here.
• For those of you wish to correct your own mistakes on the Chemistry 1 Midterm, the key can be downloaded by click here.
• Unit 4 Exam will be held next Tuesday.  Bring #2 pencil, calculator, and Ref. Tables. Make sure you're ready for it.

EARTH SCIENCE 1:
• HW #12 (Due Tomorrow): Worksheet - Earth's Interior Review Problems.
• Reminder:  Tomorrow is THE END of 2nd marking period, be sure that all assignments are in if you want it to be counted toward your report card grade.
• Unit 3 Exam will be held next week - specific date to be announced.

REGENT CHEMISTRY 1:
• Lab. #10 is completed as of today.
• Unit 4 Exam will be held next Tuesday.  Bring #2 pencil, calculator, and Ref. Tables.  Review sheet to be distributed tomorrow.

Help on Worksheet - Inferred Properties of Earth's Interior

Some of you inquired about how to work on the Worksheet - Inferred Properties of Earth's Interior...  Since I am explaining the steps, I thought I might as well post it here:

1.  Density of each inner layer is listed on the right hand side (top diagram).
2.  Depth range:  Follow the boundary of each layer all the way down to find what depth it corresponds to on the horizontal axis of the 2nd graph on the bottom.
3.  Pressure range:  Follow the boundary of each layer down to where it hit the solid bold curve on the 1st graph, then read off the pressure from the vertical axis (to the left).
4.  Composition:  On the top diagram, they listed composition for the crust and for the Inner and Outer Core.
5.  Temperature Range:  Follow the boundary of each layer down to where it hit the solid bold curve on the 2nd graph, then read off the temperature from the vertical axis (to the left).
6.  Final 3 columns:  If the Interior temperature for that layer is lower than the melting point (dashed curve), then the layer is unmelted and is a solid.  If it's above the melting point, then it's melted and is a liquid.  If it's above melting point in some region but below in other while still in the same layer, then it's partially melted and is considered "plastic".
