Update for 12-7-2012

Here is the update for today:

Chemistry 1 (SCS21):
• If you were absent yesterday, you were supposed to finish and submit the following assignment:   
Classwork #2 (Name, Period, Date):   Read Holt (Chemistry Textbook) pp. 190-198; answer the following questions:
  1. How would you describe a system’s potential energy and its stability if this system, consisting of two atoms, stay far apart?  What if two atoms  approaches one another?
  1. How is a polar covalent bond different from a nonpolar covalent bond?
  2. Why do molecular compounds have low melting points and low boiling points relative to ionic substances? 
• No HW this weekend (assuming you finished both Lab. Report #11 and HW #15 Worksheet).
Earth Science 1 (for both SES41 and SES21):
• Reminder:  Mineral Application Research Project (electronic version and hardcopy) is DUE on 12/10/2012 (This coming Monday).
• If you were absent yesterday, you were supposed to finish and submit the following assignment:   
Classwork #2 (Name, Period, Date):  

  1. Draw a schematic diagram showing the different layers of Earth’s internal structure.  Be sure to label each layer.
  1. What is the composition of Earth’s core?  What is the composition of the mantle? 
  2. What evidence did we use to show that Earth’s outer core is made of liquid?

• Unit 3 Exam is set for next Thursday.
